The Waste Management Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform the community that compost bins will be distributed to people who are interested in participating in the Community Compost Collection. Waste Management will be set up at the Knights of Columbus parking lot from 8:30am – 1pm on Wednesday, September 16, 2020.

The compost collection program pools together the organic waste of the community and turns that into rich soils. The rich soils (great for gardens) are shared with Kahnawà:ke participants each year in the Spring, giving back to those who have a collection bin and actively contribute to the communal program.

Waste Management is encouraging more community members to participate as there are many other benefits to composting. The program reduces landfill waste, helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, positively affects air quality in addition creating nutritious rich garden soil.
