Band Cards Accepted List

As per the agreement signed between the Mohawk Council of Kahnawá:ke and the Government of Quebec, Mohawks of Kahnawá:ke are entitled to a point of sale exemption of the "Quebec sales tax ".

If your sale is not exempted from the Quebec sales tax, you have two options: A) Buy the Item and claim a refund of taxes paid; or B) shop from merchants who comply with the agreement.

 

GST or QST Paid
GST error is from a business not removing the taxes on a purchase delivered on reserve.  
QST error is from a business refusing to remove the tax and sold off reserve or if the purchase was made outside of the agreed upon areas.

Vehicles

More Information About the Agreement

In any circumstance, you should contact MCK Client Based Services to conduct an investigation. When calling, please provide the store name and person responsible for customer service.

To ensure Kahnawakehró:non can rightfully shop with tax exemption, a band card accepted list was created. This listing provides Kahnawakehró:non with a list of merchants who comply with the agreement, and those who are illegally refusing tax exemption. Community members can avoid shopping at locations that do not comply.

Areas covered by the agreement

Service oriented businesses are not obligated to accept bands cards. For example:

  • Restaurants
  • Automotive Service
  • Fitness Centers
  • Esthetics
  • Membership Services
  • Hairdressers / Barbers
  • and any other service rendered off-reserve

For this purpose, businesses that fall into this category will not be added to the directory.

** Please note: Additions will be added on a regular basis. If a business who does not offer band cards changes their policy, please allow 4-8 weeks for the change. Working with outside governments is a time-consuming process.
