Dry Conditions a danger in Tiower�:ton: temporary ban on campfires

The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke would like to warn the community of extremely dry conditions in the Territory of Tiower�:ton and therefore a ban on campfires will be in effect until further notice.

With very little rain in recent weeks, water levels have become severely low in the creeks and lakes and continue to fall. A fire fueled by dried moss occurred on the evening of Saturday, May 23rd. It had begun to spread but was fortunately quickly contained by Tiower�:ton Caretakers.

Community members traveling to the Territory are asked to cooperate with the Caretakers for the safety of our land, property and our People.
