Grand Chief to meet with Premier Charest today

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke is informing the community that Grand Chief Michael Ahr�hrhon Delisle, Jr. will meet with Quebec Premier Jean Charest at 3:30pm this afternoon in Quebec City to review the progress of the negotiations currently underway between Kahnaw�:ke and Quebec.

This meeting is a follow-up to the meeting of 10 Ohiar�:ha/June 2009, at which time the Grand Chief and the Premier signed the Statement of Understanding and Mutual Respect and developed a Framework Agreement for these negotiations, which include the Sectoral Agreements of 1999 (better known as the �Ten Agreements�), as well as other areas of mutual political concern.

�Make no mistake - we�ve been extremely frustrated by the lack of movement,� said Chief Delisle. �We�re hoping that, by meeting with the Premier face-to-face, we�ll be able to clear some of the roadblocks we�re continually running into. The Framework is already in place � there has to be the political will to follow through.�

�Our aim is to provide Mr. Charest the opportunity to give direction to his cabinet to take immediate measures to achieve this goal,� added Chief Delisle.

Intergovernmental Affairs Portfolio Chief Mike Bush and Chief of Staff Mike O�Brien will also be in attendance.
