Applications available for work on Mercier Bridge

01/12/2011

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke would like to inform the community that Kahnaw:ke Trades Qualifications Program applications are now available to community members who are interested in working on Part B of the Mercier Bridge repair job.

As part of the agreement between Kahnaw:ke and Quebec, a Kahnaw:ke Trades Qualifications Program has been designed primarily to verify that trades operating on the Mercier Bridge meet a minimum requirement to ensure competency within the workforce. A Kahnaw:ke Trades Qualifications Committee is currently being formed to perform this task. This Program and Committee replaces the Commission de la Construction du Quebec jurisdictional authority in certifying workers for works performed within the Territory.

Once a potential worker is acknowledged/approved as being qualified, he/she will then be eligible for work on the Mercier Bridge. Contractors would then have a pool of qualified Kahnaw:ke workers to draw from.

The Qualifications Policy being used was designed and developed by an advisory group of Kahnawakehr:non.

Applications are available at the reception desk of the Social Development Unit, located at the Services Complex. Completed applications must be returned to the Social Development Unit, to the attention of the Director.
