Reminder - Mercier Bridge lane closures

08/06/2012

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke would like to remind the community that the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated and the Ministre des Transports du Qubec will carry out work on Mercier Bridge in the coming days to enable the opening of the new Monette Bridge.

Work will begin at 10pm tonight (Monday) and last until 5am tomorrow with a single lane open in each direction. During this period the off-ramp towards Chteauguay (ramp 3) will be completely closed to traffic. A detour will be set up using the off-ramp towards La Prairie (ramp 2), then Route 132 towards Chteauguay.

Traffic will once again be limited to a single lane per direction on the bridge from Friday, August 10th at 2pm to Monday, August 13th at 5am. During this period (Monday night and Weekend), the bridges access ramp towards the South Shore from Airlie Street at LaSalle will also be closed.

It is very important to note that the afternoon rush hour on Friday, August 10th will be difficult and road users are encouraged to use the Champlain Bridge at that time. This work may be postponed depending on weather conditions.

Over the past several months major work has been carried out to completely reconstruct the Monette Bridge, which makes it possible to access the Mercier Bridge from Montreal (LaSalle). As part of this reconstruction work a temporary bridge was created to maintain regular traffic flow towards the South Shore while isolating the Monette Bridge which was completely rebuilt.
