Eight new housing rental units to be built


The Housing Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce the approval of a Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation (CMHC) Section 95 Social Housing Program subsidy totaling $937,420. This subsidy will assist in the operation of eight (8) affordable rental housing units for low-income community members. 

The MCK Capital Unit will soon begin construction of four (4) single bedroom houses to be constructed on two parcels of common-land located on Reserve Lots 106-16 & 17 - the new development area of the community. An additional 4 houses (3 bedrooms) will be constructed in April 2014.

“We’d like to thank the Housing Department and the other people behind the scenes who did the work to get this accomplished,” said Housing Portfolio Chief Martin Leborgne. “There is always a need for affordable housing, and today’s announcement is another step in addressing this issue.”
