Eight new housing rental units to be built

The Housing Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce the approval of a Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation (CMHC) Section 95 Social Housing Program subsidy totaling $937,420. This subsidy will assist in the operation of eight (8) affordable rental housing units for low-income community members. 

The MCK Capital Unit will soon begin construction of four (4) single bedroom houses to be constructed on two parcels of common-land located on Reserve Lots 106-16 & 17 - the new development area of the community. An additional 4 houses (3 bedrooms) will be constructed in April 2014.

�We�d like to thank the Housing Department and the other people behind the scenes who did the work to get this accomplished,� said Housing Portfolio Chief Martin Leborgne. �There is always a need for affordable housing, and today�s announcement is another step in addressing this issue.�
