Membership has new Portfolio Chief

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke announced today that Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer has accepted the responsibility for the Membership Portfolio, replacing Chief Rhonda Kirby, who is expecting increased workloads on the Labor and Mohawk Self Insurance portfolios in the coming months.

The Kahnaw�:ke Membership Law is currently undergoing amendments via the Community Decision Making Process. This Wednesday�s Community Consultation will be the first Chief Sky-Deer attends as Portfolio Chief.

�While this is a challenging portfolio, I�ve been in Council for almost four years so I�m confident that I�ll be prepared for the work ahead,� said Sky-Deer, who is in her second term.

Her current duties include the Kahnaw�:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission; and the Finance, Administration & Operations Committee. She is also active on the Kahnaw�:ke/Quebec Relations and several other files.

Chief Kirby retains the Education; Transport; Health; Child Care; Kahnaw�:ke Athletic Commission; and Sports & Recreation portfolios.

The change was made at today�s Council Meeting and fully endorsed by Chief & Council.
