Important Indigenous Games Update

07/29/2008

Team Kahnaw:ke would like to inform the community of some of the final plans regarding its departure for the North American Indigenous Games being held in Cowichan, British Columbia from 3-10 Seskha/August.

An official team photo will be taken at the Kahnaw:ke Sports Complex tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at 4pm. This will include all athletes, coaches and team officials.

Chef de Mission Dave Canadian would like to remind everyone to review their checklist of items for the trip. Everyone needs to ensure they have their Medicare cards and proper identification, he said. And no one should wait to the last minute to make sure they pack essentials such as medication.

The team will leave the Kahnaw:ke Youth Center at 4am this Saturday morning. They will proceed to Trudeau Airport in Dorval to board flights to Vancouver. Once there, they will transfer for flights to Vancouver Island, then on to Cowichan itself.

Also, the MCK Communications team will leave for Cowichan on Thursday afternoon to begin preparing for the task of providing continuous coverage of the games. Reports will be available to the community via a new website: www.teamkahnawake.com, KTV (Pauls Cable, channel 3) and K103 Kahnawake radio.

118-member Team Kahnaw:ke is part of Team Eastern Door and the North, which consists of 315 athletes, coaches and officials.
