MCK announces end of EGD Pilot Project

02/16/2023

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that the Electronic Gaming Devices (EGD) Pilot Project has officially come to an end. At Mondays duly convened Council meeting, the Ratitsnhaienhs passed a Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke Executive Directive officially ending the EGD Pilot Project, which began in 2018.

A report that was compiled by the Kahnaw:ke Gaming Commissions (KGC) was presented at a Special Community meeting on December 14, 2022. It contained important and positive information concerning the operational and social impacts of EGDs in the territory. The report also indicated that more infrastructure development is required.

Now that the EGD Pilot Project has ended we will be engaging with the proponents, the KGC and the community to further assess the operational impacts that were identified within the report, said Ratsnhaienhs Michael Delisle Jr., who holds the Gaming Portfolio. This will give the MCK and the community further assurances that any and all impacts, including social will continue to be mitigated.

Currently, there are only two operational EGD licenses issued by the KGC, which will remain in place until further dialogue is had between the MCK and KGC on existing and future public policy issues.
