Mandate to amend MCK Election Law obtained

The Kahnaw�:ke Legislative Commission (KLC) wishes to inform the community that a mandate was obtained to amend the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) Election Law at a duly convened Community Consultation held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the Golden Age Club.

The community was asked for the following:

  • A mandate to amend the MCK Election Law through the CDMRP
  • Approval of the Purpose & Scope of the MCK Election Law
  • Selection of three (3) Community Representatives to sit on the Technical Drafting Committee

Heather Jacobs-Whyte, Douglas Lahache, and Myles McComber were appointed as the three Community Representatives to sit on the Technical Drafting Committee (TDC).

The next step will be for the proposed amendments to be inserted into the current 2018 version of the MCK Election Law using Track Changes and posted on the CDMRP website (www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com) for the 30-day feedback period. An announcement will be made when the document becomes available.

Upon receipt of all feedback, a report will be compiled by the TDC Technician and posted on the CDMRP website to be addressed at the Hearings in Phase II.

The community will be informed when the first CDMP Hearing has been scheduled.
