Seeking Interested Community Members

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) would like to announce that Sports & Recreation Portfolio Chief Rhonda Kirby is looking for three Community members interested in joining an Olympic Torch Relay organizing committee.

Committee members will be asked to sit in a few meetings in order to help coordinate and promote the event and to select two persons from Kahnaw�:ke to take part in the relay. Interested parties can submit their names and coordinates to MCK Communications by email at communications@mck.ca or by calling 450 632 7500.

Approximately 500 people took part in a week long survey on the subject last February and Chief Kirby was present at the Services Complex portion of that survey. Both YES and NO information were made available at the Complex and close to 90% of over 200 Community members at the Complex survey supported the idea.

The Olympic Torch Relay is scheduled to pass through Kahnaw�:ke on December 8, 2009, with a run from the Tunnel to Karonhian�nhnha School.

Runners from our community wishing to take part in the Kahnaw�:ke portion of the relay must enroll at www.rbc.com.
