Sesame Street Rehabilitation

05/07/2009

The Capital Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke would like to inform community members of the upcoming project to rehabilitate the Sesame Street Area. The work for this project is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 11th and will continue until the end of October 2009, weather permitting.

This project will include repairs to the existing water and sanitary sewer systems, installation of a new surface drainage system and concrete curbs. Upon completion of the previously mentioned works, the road will be resurfaced with new asphalt. Residents in the area may be inconvenienced with temporary loss of water, dust and noise from trucks and equipment, detours and temporary road closures. Residents will be notified at least one day prior to having the water turned off. Proper road signalization will be installed to warn of the construction limits. The community will also be notified when a road closure is scheduled.

During construction alignment-pins will be installed (steel rods marked with orange ribbon) along the roadway. These pins do not indicate the edge of the new road. The new road edge is five feet from the pin, away from the property line. This means that during construction the roadway will appear wider than actually planned. At no point does the road infringe onto private property. All private properties that are affected by the work in this area (e.g. driveways, walkways, hedges and/or fences) will be repaired or replaced prior to the completion of the project.

There will be two (2) Capital Construction Crews working in different sections of Sesame Street. Construction Crew 1 will start at the Mohawk Beach inter-section continuing East. Construction Crew 2 will start at the River Road inter-section continuing South to Blind Ladys Hill (see map below).

Your patience and cooperation throughout this project is greatly appreciated. Please contact the Technical Services Office at 450-635-1016 if further information or special requests are needed.
