Rejected Candidate Appeals to Canadian Court to Grant Injunction

Electoral Officer Lindsay LeBorgne announced today that Keith Myiow has asked the Federal Court for, “an interim injunction ordering the electoral officer for the 2009 (MCK) election to accept the nomination of Keith Myiow for Grand Chief and to declare him eligible for the nomination for Grand Chief and to put his name on the ballot and to publicize widely and in any manner the order of the court granting this interim injunction.”

Mr. Myiow has also asked for an interlocutory injunction with the same conditions.

Mr. Myiow was disqualified from running in the election for “not finishing his term in good standing.”

Electoral Officer LeBorgne has been summoned to the Federal Court on Monday, 22 Ohiarí:ha/ June. He is currently seeking legal advice on this matter.

“We are disappointed that Mr. Myiow has chosen to by-pass the Court of Kahnawake and, instead, has once again elected to appeal to the Canadian Court,” said LeBorgne.
