MCK Served with Notice from Myiow�s Lawyers

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) has announced that Chief & Council were served with a notice in regard to their rejection of the Federal Court�s order.

According to the notice, Keith Myiow�s attorneys will �take all recourses available seeking the observance of the Injunction including a Contempt of Court.�

On Tuesday evening, 30 Ohiar�:ha/June, the Federal Court ordered �the Electoral(s) Officer(s) of the 2009 Election of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake and the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake� to place Mr. Myiow�s name on the ballot as a candidate for Grand Chief.

The MCK wishes to remind the community that it does not have the right to comply to the Federal Court order as the Kahnaw�:ke Electoral Law clearly states that any and all decisions pertaining to a person�s eligibility in an election are the sole responsibility of the Electoral Officer. By accepting this order, the MCK would not only fail to defend Kahnaw�:ke�s jurisdiction but would, in fact, be in breach of the community�s own law.

In regard to the notice, the MCK says it stands firm in its resolve to defend Kahnaw�:ke�s jurisdiction.
