Seaway Maintenance Contracts Awarded

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke would like to inform the community that the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (�the Corporation�) has awarded contracts for maintenance work on the canal.

The first was awarded to local contractor Wayne�s Tree Service to perform trimming and cutting of trees and brush along the canal in the Kahnaw�:ke section.

This work has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Additionally, the Corporation has awarded a contract to Nova Scotia-based Harbour Development � Marine Contractors to perform dredging works in the Kahnaw�:ke sector. This is being done to remove silt build-up at the bottom of the channel and will not widen or deepen the Seaway.

The dredging of the Kahnaw�:ke sector is expected to start after 1, Kent�nha/October.
