10/15/2009
The Interim Legislative Coordinating Committee would like to remind all Kahnawakehr:non that the hearings for a proposed Kahnaw:ke justice system will continue next Wednesday, 21 Kentnha/October, at the Karonhianhnha School gym from 6 to 9pm.
A report on the 7 Kentnha/October hearing has been posted on the Community Decision Making Process website (www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com).
At the conclusion of that hearing, there was no consensus reached regarding the question, What issues or concerns should the justice system address? Therefore, discussion will continue. Should this concluded at a sufficiently early time, the third question (Should judgments, orders and decisions from a Kahnaw:ke justice system be recognized outside the Territory?) will be addressed. Please note that the next session will begin at 6pm, a half-hour earlier than the first two.
The Kahnaw:ke Justice Commission is using the new Community Decision Making Process to ask for a mandate to proceed in the creation of a justice system.
